Já se encontra disponível o Dicionário Temático Desenvolvimento e Questão Social - 81 problemáticas contemporâneas, publicado pela Annablume Editora (S. Paulo) em final de 2013. A obra contou com recursos do programa Ação de Referência da FAPESB e do CNPq e se constitui uma produção intelectual brasileira inédita na temática, que destaca inflexões recentes na noção do desenvolvimento e a singularidade da questão social nas sociedades latino americanas, especialmente a partir da década de noventa.
Em 564 páginas, o livro reúne 81 verbetes da autoria de 85 pesquisadores de reconhecida trajetória profissional, no Brasil, e também em outros países da América Latina e Europa, que sistematizam resultados de pesquisa sobre as mudanças contemporâneas, sedimentando um compromisso público da universidade com a sociedade e o seu tempo.
A obra é coordenada e editada por Anete B. L. Ivo, socióloga, professora do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciências Sociais e pesquisadora do Centro de Estudo e pesquisas em Humanidades (CRH) da Universidade Federal da Bahia, e conta na sua organização com a participação das pesquisadoras Elsa Kraychete, Angela Borges, Cristiana Mercuri, Denise Vitale e Stella Senes.

Call of Papers: 60th ISI World Statistics Congress

The Local Programme Committee (LPC) for the 60th ISI World Statistics Congress (WSC) invites the international statistical community to submit proposals for Special Topics Sessions (STS).

 

The 60th ISI World Statistics Congress (ISI2015) will be held 26-31 July, 2015 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It will highlight the contributions that Statistics can make to the advancement of science and engineering, business and industry, government and public policy, education, health and welfare across the globe. The scientific programme will cover invited, special topics, and contributed paper sessions on a wide variety of topics, with the overall goal of presenting a balanced programme that provides a sense of the current state of the field. It will feature presentations on leading-edge research, innovative applications, and state-of-the-art practices. There will also be talks and panel discussions on new directions and emerging issues of societal importance and public policy.

ORGANIZATIONAL LOCATION:
The Branch Chief works under the overall direction and guidance of the Technical Division Director who is the direct supervisor of the post. There are five Branches in the Technical Division:  Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH); HIV/AIDS; Reproductive Health Commodity Security (RHCS); Gender, Human Rights and Culture (GHRC); and, Population and Development (PD).  The Chief also ensures an integrated, synergistic and systems approach to the work of the Branch, and thus its contribution to the work of the Division and the Fund as a whole.
JOB PURPOSE:
The Branch Chief is the principal adviser in UNFPA providing authoritative advice and leadership for the positioning of UNFPA in the substantive thematic area within the context of the global development agenda, and particularly the ICPD Programme of Action, the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and the development architecture that emerges from the post 2015 dialogue. The Chief manages the work of the Branch in developing conceptual frameworks; substantive strategies; policies; intellectual guidance; state of the art papers; and global technical instruments and tools, relevant to the needs of countries.
Within the Branch, the Chief has overall responsibility for policy development, strategic direction, and management of human and financial resources.  The primary roles of the Branch Chief are:
·         Policy and Technical Leadership and Strategic Direction
·         Capacity Development/Networking
·         Quality Assurance on substantive areas and Thematic Evaluation
·         Resources Management
Major Activities/Expected Results
A.      Policy and Technical Leadership and Strategic Direction
·         Support the Division Director in the strategic positioning of UNFPA in the assigned substantive thematic area;
·         Provide vision, strategic direction, and leadership in the Branch’s area of responsibility, and ensure incorporation of the substantive area into organizational priorities;
·         Conceptualize, plan, coordinate and lead the development of evidence-based policy, strategy, frameworks, technical guidance and tools in the substantive area of responsibility, providing quality outputs which are timely, coherent and relevant to the needs of countries;
·         Identify needs for state-of-the-art technical knowledge, and ensure that such knowledge is developed and fed into the UNFPA knowledge sharing system;
·         Provide authoritative technical advice, guidance and support to UNFPA senior management, HQ Divisions and, in particular, to UNFPA regional and country offices;
·         Support the use of the substantive work of the Branch in UNFPA programming, UN programming, and national development processes;
·         Identify the need for, develop and maintain strategic partnerships and collaborative work within the UN system and other networks on substantive issues under the Branch’s responsibility;
·         Represent UNFPA, and advocate for the ICPD plan of action in the Branch’s substantive area, in policy dialogues and technical meetings with donors, programme countries, international agencies and institutions, and development fora;
·         Ensure the accuracy, consistency, coherence, and availability of technical content in the substantive area for global advocacy efforts; and
·         Support, in coordination with IERD, resource mobilization efforts for technical issues.
B.  Capacity Development
·         Establish and maintain partnerships, and build the capacity of global partner institutions for advancing state-of-the-art knowledge and strengthening technical advisory resources;
·         Strengthen the substantive capacity of UNFPA technical and programme staff to ensure effective programming of resources;
·         Foster partnerships and collaboration at the global level, including UN System, foundations, private sector and NGOs, to ensure a functioning network that facilitate access to financial and technical resources, and broad-based knowledge management and knowledge sharing in the substantive area of work;
·         Identify lessons learned, and ensure, with knowledge management staff, their incorporation into the UNFPA knowledge sharing system; and
·         Ensure the validation of a broad-based roster of international experts and institutions.
C.  Quality Assurance
·         Ensure the availability of new or updated global strategies, policies, indicators, tools and guidance for substantive quality assurance in the Branch’s area of work and for thematic evaluations;
·         Direct and manage a substantive quality assurance framework for the Branch’s work; and
Ensure the quality assessment of the UNFPA technical delivery system in the Branch’s substantive area.
D.  Resources Management
·         Assume overall accountability for achieving the expected results of the Branch;
·         Develop, ensure approval, implement and monitor the Branch Office Management Plan;
·         Propose annual financial requirements for the work of the Branch and monitor the use of core and external resources to ensure sound financial management in compliance with UNFPA  rules, regulations, and procedures;
·         Direct, manage and supervise the staff of the Branch;
·         Establish and maintain a harmonious working environment; promote communication; encourage innovations; strengthen team-building through active participation and interaction at all levels; and, foster staff motivation, development and empowerment;
·         Appraise Branch staff performance; ensure training/orientation for staff; provide input to DHR on selection of Branch and Division staff candidates and provide technical input to the regions on the selection of Regional technical staff candidates in the substantive area;
·         Promote an ethics-based approach in the Branch to management of human and financial resources;
·         Ensure that Audit recommendations applying to the Branch are implemented; and
Carries out any other duties as may be required by the Division Director
Work Relations
External partners include UN agencies, global organizations including centers of excellence, IGOs, NGOs, think tanks, academia, research institutions - establishing effective partnerships and building consensus for coordinated technical initiatives, building capacity, and coordinating technical networks in the substantive area.
Internal partners include Programme and Regional Office Directors, Directors of other Divisions,  Knowledge Management and Humanitarian response staff, as well as regional, sub-regional and country office technical staff - promoting knowledge sharing and collaborative working relationships in all aspects of assigned activities and establishes and maintains functional links for the exchange of lessons learned and documentation of success stories. The Chief promotes coordination and collaboration with the other Branches in TD; with the UNFPA technical network; with the Programme Division, including Humanitarian Response Branch; with Regional Offices; and across UNFPA as a whole, ensuring the timeliness, relevance and quality of the work of the Branch.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Post-graduate University Degree or equivalent (preferably Ph. D.) in demography, statistics, population studies, economics, or other field directly related to the substantive area identified in the title of the post.
Knowledge and Experience:
15 years experience of increasingly responsible professional experience in public administration and international development of which at least 8 years in the thematic area at the international level
-       Job knowledge and technical expertise – the incumbent is expected to be an expert in the field and recognized authority in the area of assignment;
-       Population Research, Census DHS and civil registration experience is essential
-       Experience of linkages between population and poverty is essential
-       Experience in population related policy development is an asset
-       Understanding of Human Rights dimensions of Population and Development
-       Proven ability to lead and manage teams of high level experts to achieve demonstrable results;
-       Extensive network within the academic and development community;
-       Excellent communication skills in speaking and writing in English;
-       Familiarity with ICT/ERP is an asset;
-       Strong interest in development work, especially the mission of the United Nations Population Fund and dedication to the principles of the United Nations; and,
-       Field experience is essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
Other Desirable Skills: Initiative, strong conceptual abilities, sound judgment, strong interest in development work, especially the mission of the United Nations Population Fund and dedication to the principles of the United Nations.

A selection announcement has been published for the awarding of a research grant for the FP7 research project entitled “Families And Societies: Changing families and sustainable societies: Policy contexts and diversity over the life course and across generations”( http://www.familiesandsocieties.eu/ ) to be conducted at the Department of Statistical Sciences (http://www.stat.unipd.it/ ) at University of Padua.

 

Applicants must hold a PhD degree in a discipline connected with the study of population and/or family change (e.g.demography, applied statistics, quantitative sociology) or must be PH.D. students – who are ready to discuss their thesis – with documented academic and professional experience in population and family change studies;

Applicant must have a good command of academic English (both written and spoken) and experience in demographic research and/or in quantitative analysis of households and/or international comparative surveys.

The research grant lasts 12 months for a gross amount of € 19.367.

The purpose of this research grant, which is funded by EU-FP7, is to fund research into:

 

1) The determinants of childlessness in Europe.

2) Fathers’ involvement in care activities.
